Fire exploring gives young people valuable insight into the fire fighting profession which helps to allow the individual to decide whether or not they wish to pursue a greater role in the fire service.  By participating in our Fire Explorer Program, the individual will gain personal confidence, learn to use various tools. develop mechanical skills and aptitude, and gain a greater awareness of personal and fire safety.

Our Approach

Our Explorer Program is planned around six experience areas with specific outcomes desired in each area:

Personal Fitness

Improvement of mental and emotional fitness, physical fitness, and an appreciation for sports.


A better understanding of America's social, economic, and governmental system.  Extensive insight and practical experience in the fire service career.


A preparation to give leadership and fulfill their responsibilities to society and the forums of the world.


Personal and stable values firmly applied and supported.  Develop people skills and a sense of family responsibility.


A degree of self-reliance based on courage, initiative and resourcefulness.


Encourage the skill and desire to help others.  Gain a keen respect for the rights of others.

- Eligibility -

Candidates for the position of Fire Explorer must be age 14 (and have completed 8th grade) to age 21 and comply with the following conditions:

  • Be free of any physical defects that would cause injury to themselves or jeopardize other participants in the Program.
  • Have no serious arrests or convictions.
  • Must maintain fire safe grooming standards.
  • While attending high school, the Explorer must maintain an overall grade point average of at least 2.0 (C).

FIRST MEETING 9/5/2018 6:00 PM


Your application packet is only the first step to becoming a Fire Explorer - next you'll have to go through a short testing process.  This testing process will be held on 9/5/2018 at 6:00 PM at Station 120 (located at 6625 N. Sandario Rd).  It will consist of the following:

Modified Physical Agility Test (check out our YouTube channel to view our firefighter's PAT!)

Written Exam


As long as effort is put forth, you are sure to pass!

If you're ready to join our Explorer Program download our application packet now!  You can also drop by our administration office or Station 121 to pick an application up in person.  Once you've completed your application turn it in to the Unit Post Adviser at Station 121.

Fire Explorer Program FAQ

The Fire Explorer Program meets weekly on Wednesdays from 6:00 - 10:00 PM.
Yes - there are annual membership dues (this price is set be Learning for Life/BSOA - who sponsor explorer programs). Annual membership dues are $33.00/year and are due at the first meeting of every year. This does not include uniform costs.
